Tonight the Flash Band Project held its meet and greet for musicians at the Lamont practice space in Columbia Heights. Of the 42 musicians registered for the event, somewhere near 30 showed up, and the house was divided into several practices rooms. A drum set in the front of the house inspired more electric jams, from jazz and reggae tunes to renditions of Parliament's "Flash Light". The back room and outdoor space played host to more traditional acoustic jams, with a caller throwing out song ideas or simple progression for everyone to play to.
In the back room jam, the chord progression turned to the Cranberries' 1994 protest anthem Zombie, led by mandolin player Anna. The song attracted several people from the kitchen and outdoor area, turning the song into a full fledged sing along. Video Here:

Later in the evening, as several of the musicians began to break out into other groups, the kitchen served as creative space, hosting a trio of violins, an acoustic guitar, and a late to the game double bass.
Bands will now be formed, and in three weeks we will see many, if not all of these musicians on stage at Heaven and Hell in Adams Morgan.
